Rabies

First entry in the Israeli horror genre is an interesting subversion of the genre. It’s heavy on characterizations with quite an ensemble cast following a number of plots throughout the story. A very sharp wit. Worth watching.

Kill List

Strong entry into the British Horror Scene, borrows heavily from a handful of successful films but adds a layer of human emotion through gritty realism via the performances from the cast and their relationships as characters. Certainly watch this to spook yourself out, the end will shock and stay with you long after the viewing.

A Night In the Woods

A Night In The Woods is another entry into the found footage genre but I found plays extremely well with the cold wet surroundings of the moors, a couple of interesting plot devices that it can call it’s own which keep the interest going. Apparently dialogue was improvised and adds a gritty element to proceedings. [...]

The Devil’s Business

Executed like a stage play, the film more or less plays in one location. The film is heavy on script with large monologues and this is played with great effect. In spite of being in one location the characters expertly describe other events outside of the film and locations. The effect is feeling like you [...]

Atrocious

A Spanish entry in the found footage genre with some interesting angles. I liked the fact that the end had a pay off that you don’t usually get with these type of movies. Creepy in places and I feel the director achieves the feeling of being lost in a maze.

The Woman

Love or hate it, this film deals with some tricky issues. I fall in the former category even though the ending felt a little heavy handed with the allegorical story telling. Certainly a shocker and not too heavy with the gore. Good performances all round.

The Caller

I quite enjoyed the twists and turns in this story. Plot sets an interesting dilemma for the protagonist. Characterizations are strong, certainly makes you feel a sense of loss as certain characters bit the big one. Well worth a watch!

Urban Explorers

Film of two halves I found. First half is a tight, tense, claustrophobic terror as teens investigate subterranean levels of Berlin looking for excitement. 2nd half is a disappointing mix of gore and horror. 1st half promised so much more than the 2nd half actually delivered. Shocks were delivered a plenty throughout. Good but could [...]

Dale and Tucker Vs Evil

Very funny subversion of the stereotypes seen in horror films. the laughs roll in as the body count mounts. Nice inventive set pieces give off satisfying results as you recognize scenes it is trying to pastiche. To Horror films what Blazing Saddles is to Westerns. Watch this film!

The Glass Man

Interesting film, psychological thriller/horror about a man’s efforts to avoid the financial mess he finds himself in. Great performances all round led from the front by Andy Nyman keep things moving as the events take a turn for the worse in one long night.
